Had practice today. My partner was a lot heavier than me, but also basically our only chance of having a state champion wrestler this year. I wrestle 138, he wrestles 182. He doesn’t cut so it was only about 40 pound difference and I’m flexible and quick enough that I could use it against him.
During live drills we went about 50-50 with him winning some, and me winning some.
After drills, we did a live match before conditioning. I wrestled him still. He took me down from a front headlock. Held me down the whole first period. Second period, I was stuck on bottom for almost the whole first half of the period, probably about 45 seconds or so. Got to my tripod and got out. He basically stalled for 30 – 45 seconds, I got very offensive. I hit a few over collar shrugs, missed the single and ankle pick from it, barely. I missed it probably 3 – 5 times. With ten seconds left, I hit a duck under but couldn’t get him on the mat before time ran out. Score: 2 to 1 going into the third. He chose down. Ran my spiral and got legs in, held him down the whole period. He bellied out and didn’t work. I was trying to work a power half series almost the whole time, I switched to a Guillotine but couldn’t get it, went back to my power half series. He stalled the whole time, I switched from cross body to parallel leg riding and just couldn’t manage to turn him. Final score: 2 to 1. I probably should have cut him and looked for the takedown, but since he was about 45 pounds heavier than me I don’t think I did too bad.
Looking to beat him by the end of the year.

Wrestled the Payson Lions. They were the 4A State Runner ups last year and the 2009 and 2010 4A State Champions. I wrestled JV. I pinned my kid in the third period. Score before that was 9 to 2. Been sick with the flu. Threw up before and after my match. Had a high fever, body aches and that whole deal ha. Record for this season advances to 12 wins, 10 losses.
1/13 and 1/14
Woke up and still had a high fever, still was throwing up. Didn’t wrestle at the Rocky Mountain Rumble. Missed the biggest tournament of the year. I would have improved the most here. But, yesterday I was out of gas by the end of the third period. I know I’m not in bad shape. I go harder than everyone in the room. Always the first done with sprints and first in all conditioning drills. Being sick took it out of me. Throwing up a lot probably didn’t help either. I think I could have won or placed at the JV Rocky Mountain Rumble had I felt good. I missed my chance. Next year, I will have to place in the Varsity Rocky Mountain Rumble.
I need to step it up. Next week we only have two practices before we duel Spanish Fork. No school or practice on Monday. I plan to run on Monday, I also plan to run on Tuesday. I’m going to do sprints on Monday, or maybe go 800m three rounds for time. Then on Tuesday, I will go for a long distance run. From here on out, I really need to buckle down and stay after to work on my techniques, to get in better shape and become an overall better wrestler. I know I’ve said it before and end up not doing it, but for me to qualify and place at the State Championships, I have to do it. I can’t waste anymore time.
today was supposed to be a lighter practice, but i went with chad and he went hard the whole time but i scored a lot of takedowns. tons of low singles, didn’t work much from the tie up. except for a double leg and a high crotch.
wrestled a lot and was way under weight, so i got to eat and drink a lot of water tonight. probably get to eat some breakfast. i’m wrestling varsity tomorrow for sure. i went hard in practice this week. i know i’m ready. i know i can hang with the best. i know i can win. i’ll use my motion and circle around him until he reaches and if it’s there i’ll go high crotch or double leg, if it’s not i’m circle him until my low single is there, if i can snap him hard in the tie, i’ll look for my pick.
all i want to do is be successful. lately i’ve been getting furious in practice and just scoring off shear craziness and its helped when i need to score points and i end up escaping off bottom or reversing them or getting a take down when i’m in deep on the legs and they are defending good. i’m going to win. WAR NORTH SANPETE.
went hard in practice today. got off a lot of weight. walked out 1 pound under. drills went okay, i’m not very good on top, i’d rather just cut people loose and take them down again. but worked on some bar arms and halfs and a few breakdowns any ways.
i pinned the varsity 145 in a near side cradle in the second period, the score was tied at the time. then i wrestled the varsity 132, a short, stalky kid that’s stronger than hell and I beat him 9 – 7. I’m more impressed about this win because he used to kill me, like pin me in the first 45 seconds last year. i used a lot of motion out of the tie up, and if he tried to tie up with me i’d bang on his head real hard and keep moving him looking for my picks. scored all my shots from the outside though.
we have a duel against delta on thursday. it will probably be a massacre. i’ve wrestled the kid i have to wrestle before, if i wrestle varsity, which i probably will because cruz’s knee is still messed up. the kid is a little bit taller than me and likes ankle picks, russian ties, tilts and leg riding. he used to beat me a lot. usually by no more than 5 points. i’ve gotten a little better, should be a good match. he’s ranked 5th in the 3a rankings. i’d like to take that ranking from him.
had a hard practice today. lost 6 pounds in sweats and a t shirt. lot of live drilling, live wrestling on the feet and ran a lot of sprints. i was the leader for most of the sprints. i really pushed myself. i want to do better. pretty sure i’m wrestling varsity this weekend because of the varsity kid’s knee.
we played king of the mat today, i placed top 5. even with the bigger guys, i hit a sweet duckunder on the varsity 195 kid, well, it was more of a boot scoot. we duel delta on thursday and we’ll be wrestling at the juab winter classic tournament, a 9 match round robin tournament. i’ve really been working on my outside shots, low singles. hit a lot of good low singles today and had a few decent picks. need to work on the tie up a little more, i’m not horrible but i could be a lot better. need to work on getting off bottom too. not very good there.
going to stay after practice tomorrow and work on coming up off the bottom, motion and creating angles in the tie up and then last, motion and creating angles; shooting outside the tie. i’m going to work on posting arms, looking for high crotches and doubles, also working on my stance and motion to get my low singles and finishing out the back door because at millard, i got into the legs deep and couldn’t finish out the back door, i would have scored 6 more points with it and probably could have majored the kid.
anyways, i’m out for the night. peace

Last night was Red and White night. The inter squad dual deal.
I wrestled Cruz. I got caught and pinned in a cradle from a front headlock because of one mistake. He’s strong enough that I can’t make mistakes like that for him to capitalize. Not just him, but every other strong wrestler.
I was pinned in the first period, he took a bad shot and I sprawled hard, he didn’t even get to my leg, but he came up and I hand my head down he jumped up and got the front head and arm and then i just stepped forward with the wrong leg. I’ve beat him in practice so it pisses me off to know I should have won that match. A lot of my family was there, it was embarrassing to lose in front of everyone like that. Especially on some fluke thing like that.
I’ll post the video sometime. Having computer issues again, don’t know if this laptop has a fire wire cable spot, but I’ll see what I can do.
Going to get a good workout in. I’ll post it after. Peace.
