dueled Spanish Fork on thursday. We won. I won both my jv matches. First match I was beating the kid 16 to 2 when I pinned him. next match i teched the kid. Domination. Now if I could just do that on varsity level kids all the time.
Few more weeks of wrestling left. Gotta get it done this season.
had a good practice. drilled with chad. went good, he’s flexible and a scrambler so scoring is tough but i manage to score. just have to watch out for his arm throws. wrestled in a match with chad also, first period he scored a takedown, i escaped. second period, i escaped, no other action. third period, he escapes i take him down and turn him for two. i won 4 to 3. next match i wrestled in practice was against brady, first period i scored a takedown and three near fall and he escaped. second period, i escaped and scored another takedown. third period, he got a reversal and i got an escape. 9 to 3 was the score.
doing better, starting to get it back. i woulda scored one more takedown on brady but i hit my cheekbone on his knee and split open pretty good. blood time. but overall it was a good practice
Wrestled the Payson Lions. They were the 4A State Runner ups last year and the 2009 and 2010 4A State Champions. I wrestled JV. I pinned my kid in the third period. Score before that was 9 to 2. Been sick with the flu. Threw up before and after my match. Had a high fever, body aches and that whole deal ha. Record for this season advances to 12 wins, 10 losses.
1/13 and 1/14
Woke up and still had a high fever, still was throwing up. Didn’t wrestle at the Rocky Mountain Rumble. Missed the biggest tournament of the year. I would have improved the most here. But, yesterday I was out of gas by the end of the third period. I know I’m not in bad shape. I go harder than everyone in the room. Always the first done with sprints and first in all conditioning drills. Being sick took it out of me. Throwing up a lot probably didn’t help either. I think I could have won or placed at the JV Rocky Mountain Rumble had I felt good. I missed my chance. Next year, I will have to place in the Varsity Rocky Mountain Rumble.
I need to step it up. Next week we only have two practices before we duel Spanish Fork. No school or practice on Monday. I plan to run on Monday, I also plan to run on Tuesday. I’m going to do sprints on Monday, or maybe go 800m three rounds for time. Then on Tuesday, I will go for a long distance run. From here on out, I really need to buckle down and stay after to work on my techniques, to get in better shape and become an overall better wrestler. I know I’ve said it before and end up not doing it, but for me to qualify and place at the State Championships, I have to do it. I can’t waste anymore time.
50 Stability ball push ups (hands on ball, feet on floor)
10 wide grip pull ups
10 paralell grip pull ups
10 close grip pull ups
10 wide grip chin ups
10 close grip chin ups
10 pistol squats left
10 pistol squats right
Nothing too fancy here on either day, just wanted to start working out a little bit more on my own. Starting out light, don’t want to get burnt out. Need to start doing burpees again. I need to get in better shape. Lately I just feel slow on my feet and tired when wrestling. I should be destroying every kid in the practice room and on the mat in competition, but I feel slow and sluggish. Going to stay after this week and drill a little bit. Probably run some sprints and bear crawls, maybe some tuck jumps, etc to get my footwork back.
practice went okay today. i’ve got a cold that has to mess with my conditioning and my knee is still a little tender. still went hard and got it done though. drilled a lot today, on the feet going light and then top/bottom going 100% i’m really starting to like short sits and then getting hand control and hip heisting out, or even standing up if i have to, its a good way to create motion on the bottom. been working with some over collar shrug stuff too. i like controlling both sides of the tie, but not very many people let you control both sides, they try to free wrists and fight inside, so if someone takes away my inside collar, i worked on an over collar shrug to a pick and then a low level, throw by type of attack.
wrestled a match in practice today. took my kid down with an over collar shrug to pick, cut him, took him down with a double leg, pinned him in a half. started back up, took him down with another over collar shrug to pick. time ran out. i went down, short sit and hip heisted out and went right back to looking for takedowns. hit a decent low single, cut him, hit a good double leg, good high c, time ran out, he went down, i turned him again with legs in, power halfed and cross faced, let him up, he shot in, i whizzered hard and stuck him again just by keeping my whizzer and hipping into him until i got him on his back. had to do an overtime period, i hit a sweet head snap into a double leg with a trip finish. kid’s not great but he’s not horrible either, he’s wrestling varsity at 126 but the weight cut regulations made him go 132 for a few weeks so he weighed about 132 and i weighed about 138 when we wrestled.
tomorrow should be an easy practice, drilling, getting weight off, maybe a live match or two. then we duel carbon on thursday.
practice was alright today. i’ve had diarrhea all day and a cold on top of that, think i might have the flu. my knee is tender and pretty stiff after practice. i favored my left knee mostly today. did alright, wrestled cruz and went all three periods with him and then we had over time, and top bottom over time, i beat him the the over time periods but he beat me 6 to 4 in the actual match. ran the wall sprints today like an animal, i was either first or second either time.
the whole team is sick i think, which sucks. it’s just passing on sickness pretty much. oh well. i walked out of practice at 139.1, had a powerade and some water, then had coffee with a friend, and some ramen. i’m probably about 142 right now, which isn’t bad.
gotta few things to work on, sort of a wrestling agenda for this week. i did okay this weekend, not horrible, but there was some matches I should have won that i didn’t do what i needed to to get it done.
first up on the list is turning from the top position. i’d like to learn a cradle series, maybe a crossface cradle and an inside cradle with a few finishes for each. next up on my list is popping my hips when i throw. i need to learn step in, and get a good pop so i can toss them from my overhook position and not get bodylocked and then bear hugged. next up is circling, and not backing up and getting called for stalling. i backed up a lot in my manti match and gave up a point for stalling – part of this has to do with my conditioning. my conditioning is next on this list.
i’m not really sure where my conditioning is at. i have a pretty bad cold and don’t feel all that great and i have asthma on top, so combined with a cold it’s throwing me off a little. i felt good during the delta duel match, went all three periods and wasn’t way tired at the end, this was when i first started getting sick. at the juab tournament, by the third period i was extremely tired and didn’t do what i needed to do to score when i should have. regardless, i’m going to work on my conditioning more so even in tough, tight matches i will be able to stay calm and confident as i know i am in better shape.
woke up today pretty sick, got a head cold, my nose is congested and i’ve got one of those hack coughs. ha ha. my knee was a little sore and stiff. iced it for a while, walked for a while then i iced it again. I’ve been taking ibuprofen every six hours or so. trying to stay on top of it. a lot of the swelling has gone down. it hurt to kneel down on it last night but this morning it’s not too bad. Feels a little bit tender. I’ll be practicing tomorrow. Wear my knee pad on my right side and I’ll have to be careful with it, but I should be fine as long as I take care of it and let it rest today.
We duel Carbon on Thursday and on Friday/Saturday we will be wrestling at Manti’s tournament. Should be a good time.
If I ever get a new graphics card I’ll upload some videos of me wrestling lately. Been using my dad’s laptop because my desktop’s graphic card went out and his laptop doesn’t have a connection for a fire wire. So once i get a new graphics card I should be good to go and be able to upload matches.
Going to do some joint mobility stuff today and keep icing and moving. Peace
